Note to Self

Dearest Self,

When leaving your children in the care of your husband, do not be alarmed to return to an unkempt house. Do not be surprised to find that the toddler has gone to bed unbathed and wearing the same attire in which he was dressed 12 hours prior. Or to find the baby wearing nothing at all, but a clean diaper, as she lies in her crib with a slightly crusty milk mustache. Only remember that they must have had such a fantastic time with their daddy that there was simply no time for baths or pajamas, and that everyone must have passed out in sheer exhaustion after such merriment.

Besides, dear self, isn't it wonderful that you were able to escape your duties for a few hours to join in a spirited dice game with 12 women vying for a styrofoam crown while discussing recent sightings of the ghetto bird, potty training techniques and grandiose weight loss plans (whilst stuffing mouths full of scrumptious food).

So never mind the crumbs scattered across the countertops, the toys strewn across the floor and the dirty babies sleeping in their beds. Only thank yous are in order for a husband who means business when he plays with the kids.

Yours truly,

Me

Oh my gosh, that is exactly what my husband does! I need to work on the thank you part though and just relax about the mess.

you are so good to put it in perspective.
when my girls were younger and he'd have them i would ask if they were hungry and he'd say, "no they had milk and crackers." as if that was a perfect meal. truth is they probably loved it.
positive thinking. glad you had a night out.
what are you guys doing tonight?

It's always funny when the menfolk aren't quite sure what we do all day... but aren't able to do what we do when they are home. Ah well. :)

You are a great mother! Everything you describe of your kids while you are away and your hubby is watching them, are how my kids are on a regular basis when my husband is away and I am watching them! Glad you could go spend time with the ladies. And that so nice of Trent to let you have that time.

I find myself giving the same pep talk in my head whenever I return home, leaving Daddy in charge. Cute letter Rachel. :)
