One Smart Cookie

This cute boy (school photo taken in October) is doing amazing in school. Today Trent and I attended his annual IEP (Individual Education Plan) to talk with his teacher, speech therapist, and occupational therapist about his program. They also had a kindergarten teacher present to brainstorm ideas with us. He still has another full year of integrated preschool but we are already discussing kindergarten possibilities. Crazy!

Ty has been participating in integrated preschool for almost one year now. It is remarkable how much he has progressed in just one year. According to his report, he can do the following:
  • Identify colors, shapes, and animals.
  • Count to 13. He thinks he can count to 20 but often leaves out 14 and 17.
  • Identify 6 letters
  • Write his name. He's kind of lucky - he's only got 2 letters to remember.
  • Pronounce all 26 letters in isolation.
  • And more...not bad for a 3 year old that has had to work extra hard to accomplish things that come so easy to most kids!
He still has an uber short attention span, needs more work on his speech (articulation, tenses, pronouns, prepositions) and requires help with his social skills, but he is doing great and we are so proud of him!

His teachers are amazing and I can tell they love working with him. His speech teacher lets him use the smart board and the computer frequently as part of their lessons. His OT uses the perfect combination of tough and fun to get Ty to use his fingers correctly. And, as always, we think Miss Alicia is heaven sent!
